Project AWARE - Converving underwater environments throught education, advocacy and action
Conservation begins with understanding the need to protect waters necessary for life. Each year Project AWARE introduces a new public awareness and education campaign to address environmental issues and involve individuals in solutions. Project AWARE also teaches enthusiasts how to sustainably interact with aquatic resources and apply these skills to conservation.
Remote Area Dive fully supports Project AWARE by getting involved with International Clean Up days, giving Project AWARE talks in schools and donating $7 from every course to Project AWARE. We also promote sustainable ecotourism by pushing the "take nothing but photos, leave nothing but bubbles" idealogy, encouraging students to complete Peak Performance Buoyancy specialties and using environmentally friendly mooring techniques.
Our ongoing efforts have been recognised by being selected as Environmental Achievement Award recipients in both 2006 and 2007.
"In the end, we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught." Baba Dioum, Senegalese Conservationist.
