The new Fourth Element OceanPositive Hydroskin Long Sleeve Rashguards are part of the OceanPositive Collection. The Hydroskin rashguards are designed to wear under a wetsuit or semi-dry suit, or as a UV shield for all water sport activities.
The fit of the Fourth Element OceanPositive Hydroskin Rashguards has been improved with flattering panels and kept streamlined with flatlock seams. Presented in a palette of classic and ocean-inspired colours with water-based ink prints on chest and back in complementary tones.
The ultra-smooth fabric made with a combination of recycled polyester and stretchy elastane reduces friction between the skin and a wetsuit and helps to stop chafing of tight/ill-fitting suits. The Hydroskin rashguards are tight-fitting with long sleeves and elasticated thumb loops. Please select a size up for a more relaxed fit.
OceanPositive: We consume nearly 1 million plastic bottles a minute globally. This waste is not always necessary and not all of it is handled responsibly. Recycling is one solution to the problem, creating new products from old, but it is just one part of tackling the problem. Rejecting single-use plastic packaging and recycling whenever and wherever possible is a step in the right direction. With small changes in our behaviour, we can make a big difference. Made with recycled post-consumer plastic waste, each Hydroskin OceanPositive Rashguard prevents approximately 7 plastic bottles from ending up in landfill or worse still, the ocean.
These OceanPositive Hydroskin rashguards are made with ECONYL® 100% regenerated Nylon, a significant percentage of which comes from fishing nets recovered from the sea. These 'Ghost Nets' amount to over 600,000 tonnes of lost gear every year. The main hazard is to marine life — from invertebrates to large marine mammals. They continue to fish, long after they have been abandoned, and account for the loss of many lives. The netting, very slow to degrade, scrubs coral, creating a desolate seascape where they are dragged over the reef by shifting currents. Now, all over the world, dive teams are removing these ghost nets from the wrecks and reefs, often at great depths, and bringing them up to the surface where they can be recycled. ECONYL® yarn is made by Aquafil — an Italian company which has developed an ingenious process to recycle Nylon fishing nets (and other Nylon waste) back into first-grade quality Nylon yarn.
Up to 14,000 tons of sunscreen washes off into our coral reefs every year and accelerates the process of coral reefs bleaching, as well as being toxic to certain reef fish species. Oxybenzone and octinoxate are the chemicals that have been flagged as being most destructive to the reef. By wearing a rashguard with built-in sun protection, you reduce the amount of sunscreen that you need to apply to your body.
