Remote Area Dive COVID-19 RESPONSE

WHILE STILL OPERATING OUR RETAIL AND NON DIVING DEPARTMENTS, WE WILL TAKE THE REQUIRED STEPS TO ASSIST IN MINIMIZING THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS THROUGHOUT THE POPULATION. WE WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR AND ADAPT TO THE SITUATION AS IT UNFOLDS. READ ON FOR WHAT TO EXPECT FROM US IN THE MEANTIME.

Firstly: What is COVID-19?  

“Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new virus that had not been previously identified in humans. The virus causes respiratory illness (like the flu) with symptoms such as a cough, fever and in more severe cases, pneumonia” (WHO).  Some people recover easily, while others may get sick very quickly.  As infection is similar to the spread of the flu, good hygiene can assist in prevention.

 

 Infection can be seen to be transmitted:

  • from close contact to an infected person

  • from touching objects or surfaces contaminated by the sneeze or cough of an infected person and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth

CLEANING & HYGIENE PRACTICES FOR STAFF & CUSTOMERS

While we have always practiced good hygiene practices at Remote Area Dive, we will be taking extra measures to minimise the spread of the virus. We ask that in this trying time that all staff, customers and friends of the centre take extra precautions in relation to hygiene, to ensure that they assist in minimising the spread. We request that all staff and customers:

 

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

  • Cover nose and mouth with a tissue or flexed elbow when coughing or sneezing, dispose of tissues immediately after use and wash your hands or apply hand sanitiser.

  • Avoid close contact with anyone who has cold or flu-like symptoms.

  • We ask that any staff or customers who are feeling unwell, do not come into the centre. We absolutely want you to visit and appreciate your business but ask that you do so at a time when you are feeling well. Should you suspect that you have been exposed to COVID-19, we encourage you to present to healthcare professionals for testing

IN-STORE

  • All surfaces in store and will be disinfected daily, including handles, terminals, counter tops and any other frequented surfaces.

 

  • We will make hand sanitisers, alcohol wipes and disinfectants available for use by both staff and members of the community and encourage the use of these products.

 

  • All masks used for mask fitting will be cleaned before and after use by a member of staff using disinfectant.

COURSES

 

  • Online eLearning for courses will be provided allowing for academic learning and practical sessions are delayed as of 25 March 2020.​

 

  • All centre gear including regulators, masks and snorkels are cleaned after every use in disinfectant. All regulators, masks and snorkels will also be soaked in disinfecting solution prior to all items being dried in the sun.

 

  • The RAD classroom will temporarily be closed to use – all theory will be conducted outside and follow appropriate distancing. 

 

  • For the immediate future, any rebooking due to illness or concerns around COVID-19 will be permitted without penalty. The centre must be advised of your non-attendance. Any “no-shows” will still incur the same penalties.

 

  • Any students or participants who are feeling unwell or exhibiting symptoms will be asked to leave the centre and return when they are well. This is for the safety and protection of our other students, staff and the general community.

BOAT

  • All cups, thermos and eskies will be disinfected after every use.

 

  • Antibacterial soaps and other disinfecting agents will be available for use on board.

 

  • Any divers exhibiting any cold and flu symptoms will not be permitted on-board.

MOVING FORWARD

 

We will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds and update this management plan in line with the advice of the relevant authorising bodies.

 

These measures have been put in place for the protection of our customers, staff and members of the general community. Remote Area Dive management and staff have no control over the current circumstances. Abuse, aggressive or rude behaviour will not be tolerated. Any person exhibiting these behaviours will be asked to leave. We appreciate your cooperation through this trying and unprecedented time.
